Need POS system (cheap) to record paying activites breakdown

My client is an outdoor activites company. The majority of their customers are on a drop in basis - and whoever happens to be behind the desk takes the money etc. But the breakdown of the activities is not being recorded and I am regularly 500 quid or so over in my cash up at the end of the week.

Can anyone recommend a cheap and cheery till/POS system (maybe touch screen) that the guys can press 1 or 2 buttons to record the sale and the type of activity?

I've seen a couple on the web - but not sure how good/bad they actually are.

Any ideas?

Why not go with pre-printed books of tickets - one book for each activity.

When someone pays for an activity they are given a ticket for that activity as a receipt. At the end of the week, check how many tickets have gone. Get pre-numbered tickets for extra traceablility if you like.

hmm - food for thought.

Will it not just be as chaotic trying to find the right book as it is in trying to find the right clipboard and pen? It can get very busy in the outer office.
