For Clucks (and other Wimbledon-ites) - help!

OK, the nanny really is pregnant and very sick, so has given her notice. DS really really loved her, so she will be hard to replace. Clucks, I remember you had some bad experiences with nurseries in Wimbledon - could you email me about it? And does anybody else have views/recommendations for daycare in Wimbledon? I have been on the list for the Playdays nursery for yonks, so I might see whether I have moved up at all. Else it is back to the lottery that is Simply Childcare...

Florence, I would still recommend the nursery ds was at in wimbledon as imo it is better than most in this area. Especially as your DS will be in the better class, 1-2's. There are still staffing issues that I hear about on the grapevine but I think a lot of them do have them. Admittedly, I didn't ever have a look around playdays, but did look at dees (didn't like rooms, staff too young) and a couple of others. The one he was at is on dundonald road, building blocks and about fifty pounds a day. I'm afraid you'll still find a horrendous waiting list, but as he's not in the baby room it may not be too long.

Interestingly, I have just subscribed to simply childcare (after your recommendation!) looking for a mother's help and didn't get many responses.

Good luck, if you still have my number give me a ring and I'll tell you more.

Thanks Clucks, I'll get mumsnet to pass my email on - maybe we can hold a Wimbledon mini-meet with Pamina and Janus? Sorry that Simply Childcare is not working out. I think maybe I was just very lucky the first time, got somebody who has been excellent and not too expensive either.

florence, mine goes to Building Blocks for 2 mornings a week too and she (and I) love it. We are moving in a week so we will have to leave and I'm really sorry to have to take her out of the nursery. However, I have a friend who has recently moved here and she has been on their waiting list for a while and recently rang to be told it was likely to be a year before a place came up (gulp!!) (her's is 2.5 BTW). Always worth a try but seems to be really popular, shame. I looked a few and I also liked Crown (I think it was called), very different from BB but just got a really good feeling of happy children, etc.
I'm moving to Twickenham, not far away, so would still be up for a meet-up if you arrange one. I'm logging on a lot less now (due to 6 week old and not much time!) but I'll keep an eye on the thread.
Good luck anyway with nurseries, what a shame about the nanny.
I think I also have to thank you for putting me on to yoga with Annabel Hargrave, I'm sure it was you, and I did it for 3 months and loved it so thanks again.

I know Edgarcat ... incredible isn't it? I used to pay 30 quid a day in Surrey ... now in NZ it is $5 an hour (which is less than 2 quid!!)

Sorry for leaving this thread hanging! Thanks for the comments, and yeah, Ghosty and edgarcat, it is extortionate - in fact I get less in the hand than my nanny. I can't afford to wait for a year, by which time, DS will be 2.5. Am seeing somebody tonight who is a possibility, so cross fingers it works out. Clucks, I have asked Mumsnet to forward my details on as well, may quiz you some more about BB's current status. If you and Janus are keen, it would be nice to meet up - but what would work best? Day/night/week/weekends? I work Wed-Friday BTW.

Florence

My e-mail had been de-activated while I've been off for so long. I am now re-activated so if you request tech to send your add again, I will respond asap. Would love to meet you up, have beenup to my neck in baby stuff and rarely takes less than 4 hours of preparation before I can go anywhere. Not yet ventured out totally alone with both of them yet. It'll be a little adventure for me.
