Hi,
I got called into a meeting today to be told my job is "at risk". They are cutting costs (isn't everyone!) and the powers that be have decided my job isn't needed anymore (although the rest of the office I support seem to think it is and have told my boss so!)
They have said they are looking for alternative employment for me, but I work in a small satelite sales office in Buckinghamshire where there are about 7/8 of us in total...only 5/6 work regularly in the office. They said they are having trouble finding alternative employment for me, but if anything comes up, I know the probability is that it would be at our head office in the North of England. Now I'm not prepared to commute from Hertfordshire (where I live) to Lancashire on a daily basis (and my salary wouldn't allow for that either!).
If they can't find anything for me, they say it would be redundancy (but they don't want it to come to this). Please note, I am the ONLY person being told this. One other staff member has been asked to cut his hours to 3 days - but he made it clear to the bosses over a year ago that now he's heading to retirement age, he WANTS to reduce his hours.
I am 19 weeks pregnant, been working for the company for over 2 years and am now feeling extremely stressed and anxious because like all mums and mums to be, I can't afford to be out of work for any longer than I have to (and that includes in my case maternity leave). My dad seems to think it might be unfair dismissal because I'm being "forced" into redundancy.
HR have said they want to come to a mutual agreement with me - mutual for me would be full pay until I go on maternity leave in December (baby due 5th Jan 10) and then SMP. BBut if they are going to do that, they might has well keep me in my job!
My head is spinning, I need some advise on where I stand, what to do.
:-(
