NHS childcare discount

DH works for the NHS and I'm due to start work in September. I'd heard that you can get a substantial discount at some nurseries. DH is taking forever to find out about this so I'll ask Mumsnet!

10% is usual. usually at the nurseries on the hospital sites or near to the sites. never seen anything that would be a substantial discount.

you'll get to apply for childcare vouchers as salary sacrifice (each of you up to £243 per month, its taken before tax and ni deductions)

The NHS have specific childcare specialists within the children's information services. I would phone your DH's HR and ask for the contact details for this person. You can then receive all the info they produce and find out whats on offer.

in our local trust we get a monthly email called "family matters" which is a monthly mag full of info, even study, info days to attend pre and post maternity leave regards finances, credits, childcare options. Ask DH if he gets something similar and ask him to forward to you.

i've worked for 3 NHS trusts and never come across any discounts in nursery fees. As twinklytoes says, nursery vouchers as a salary sacrifice are about the only things I know about.

I would get him to speak to HR or phone the nurseries closest to the hospital and ask them.

I work for the NHS and ds is in a nursery very near my work. No discount here or at the other local nurseries we looked at.

The hospital site nursery was a bit cheaper (with a waiting list you'd need to be on when you were a twinkle in your grandfather's eye ) but not substantially and only for full time places.

He can buy up to £243 childcare vouchers which comes of his wage before tax therefore essentially tax free. If he emails HR they'll send him a form. Easy to set up.
