I only phoned to ask if it was worth me sending in a CV and if they anticipated any more posts in the future. I explained I was pg and could not apply now.
The nurse said 'why not, I got this job when I was pregnant, and if youre the right person for the job we dont care if youre pregnant or not'!!!

Feck feck feck, what do I do now? Should I apply or am I just setting myself up for misery when I dont get job offered cos am big fat hippo

heavens yes, apply, what have you got to lose? If you don't get it, you're no worse off than you are at the moment, and if you do then weyhey!

If the nurse you spoke to got the job when pregnant then (assuming she was part of the same team you'd be in), doesn't that suggest enlightened management and that you'd have a fair crack at the position like anyone else?

Definately apply! I've just read your other post and in the sort of job you're after, it's as much the 'right person' for the role probably unlike your current role (I looked at your profile)- which will be very much focused upon clinical skills.

It seems clear that your being pregnant isn't going to be any kind of an obstacle, quite rightly. Although if put on the spot any potential employer with any kind of awareness of discrimination legislation isn't going to say 'oh yes I agree there's no point you applying because you are pregnant', as the nurse specifically pointed out that she was pregnant when she got her job, and specifically said that it wouldn't matter, then I'd say it doesn't.

So if you want the job, apply. Is there a weeny bit of you that's concerned that you might not get the job and now wouldn't be able to say it's because you're pregnant?

You have nothing to lose, if you are the right person you will get the job. If you're not, you can ask for feedback, sort out any problems/skills or experience gaps, and then you will be in a strong position to apply for something similar after your maternity leave.

In supporting information would you mention that your reason for a complete change in direction is due to personal experience with a family member? This IS what has driven me to this type of position and heightened my awareness of the importance of roles like this

Yes, I would mention it. As NewPenName says, just make sure you then go on to explain how this personal experience has expanded to become a professional focus.

Well have done app form now, a lot of cutting and pasting from previous applications but also said how recent personal experience has increased my awareness of the importance of this role etc etc, the impact community based care delivery can have on clients and carers etc etc.
Im actually quite pleased with it.

Just go for it. I was speaking to an employer about a job this morning and I'm 38 weeks pregnant!!!! They didn't seem phased by potentially having to wait 6 months for me to start, they were looking for very specific skills and prepared to wait for the right candidate.
