I worked in an opticians about 20 years ago. I was the office manager (small chain with three branches) but used to help out on reception. What do you want to know?

Typically the receptionists day involved opening mail, answering the phone to book appointments, handing out glasses and contact lenses that people came to collect, greeting people who had come in for appointments, helping people to choose frames.

The senior receptionist would occasionally help with repairs or adjustments but normally this is done by specialists (can't remember what these guys are called). That's pretty much it I think.

Skills mainly being organised, cheerful, friendly and helpful.

Hi,
I used to be a opitcal receptionist. It very much depends on the store and how busy you are. The main skills needed in a busy one is remembering who everyone is and organising the staff accordingly. Other things include, making appointments, answering the phone etc.

I didnt have to help people choose frames or do repairs but it depends on the store.

I really liked it, good luck
