Is this taking a job under false pretenses?

Someone applied for a job which needed training. Until they have the training they are an assistant.

They agreed that they would train & was offered the job.

2 weeks later they have said to the boss that they will not do the training & that they want to stay as an assistant.

What reaction would this person expect?

Is this a new job or a transfer/promotion within the same company.

If it is a new job then I would have thought that they would not pass the probationary period and would be dismissed.

I'm not sure what would happen in the other case.

& I am pissed off because I really like her

I am trying not to react - but to weigh up options

But tbh I don't need a 20hr assistant

I would be pissed off as well, it's really not a great start for her is it?

Do you think if she knew that the alternative is no job at all she would agree to do the training?

Is there an assistants position for her to fill?

Although TBH if she is taking the piss like that after only 2 weeks in the job it doesn't bode well for the future.

There isn't an assistant job (well there might be 3 or 4 hours a week)

Also she only wants to work 4 days not 5

She knows the training is required

Damn I'll have to keep her for a few weeks as I have people on leave but then I think she has to go

Sorry, but she is totally taking the piss. She sounds like the kind of person who will be calling in sick on Mondays and Fridays and rolling in half an hour late every day.

I hope to god she doesn't ask me for a reference as I do feel lied to

But I don't think I have any choice

That's really not fair of her. And in the current climate, I'm sure there are loads of people who'd be more than willing to train - especially with the guarantee of a better position. Is there a particular reason she doesn't, like cost or childcare, or is it just laziness?

I'd get rid and start again but be careful about legalities and contracts etc.

Time off in Lieu for the training

No children at home

Pay rise when she qualifies

I don't understand tbh it's not even a long course only about 7 or 8 days (spread over a few weeks)

Is she young and it's her first job or something?

She says she loves the job & the people but I can't keep her on

I really need a qualified member of staff I already have assistants

2 interviews, a trial afternoon, numerous conversations (pre-interview, at both interviews & since) about the training

I really wanted to check I wasn't BU.........

I feel bad I can't get shut straight away, I feel I am stringing her along not saying anything for a fortnight, but if I say anything earlier she might leave without notice & that would leave me short staffed

Hmmm, at that age she should know how things work so I think I would get shot of her.

Unless you can train up one of the other assistants, but it doesn't sound like she is worth bending over backwards for.

The others don't want to train (family commitments etc plus they applied for the assistant job & enjoy it)
