Injured wrist in May, they only decided yesterday that I actually have bad ligament damage and they want to act to prevent arthritis later, even though it feels much better now. Had been told I could start to use wrist more again and now I can't.

This is my last week of one job - so will get sick pay until Thursday. Then I am due to start a temporary 3 month maternity cover job...I don't have a contract yet.

Job is very physical, lots of lifting. Its is not an option not to do this, I would have to be on sick now because I am not supposed to lift, then be on sick while I have first op...which will result in bandages and stitches and am not allowed to get it wet/lift with it. Then after the 2nd op I will be in plaster for a good few weeks and possibly need physio after. So I would be off for the whole duration of the temp job!!!

I am waiting until I definetly find out if I am not getting an MRI first, I really really want an MRI to back up what the xray says.

But what the hell do I do? Am I supposed to tell my boss I can't do the job and then go and claim something? What? Sickness benefit? I am really upset and my stress levels are through the roof. I am more worried about this than the actual op!!!

Well you are going to have to tell your boss that you won't be able to do the job, yes.

Is it a new job completely or just a new contract with the same employer? If it's the same employer how long have you been there?

In terms of benefits you'd probably get incapacity benefit, although I don't really know anything about it.
