do prospective aupairs not realise if they post a photo of them looking like a hot babe no mother's going to enquire into their services!

or is it just me?! been idly browsing thro a couple of aupair sites, some of the look great, photos do seem to indicate a lot but I'm rather put-off by the bikini/night club shots which some of them naively post in the hope of securing employment! DH might be tempted but i would not entrust them with the care of my LOs and would forever fear that they would flounce round the house half-naked at the drop of a hat. Shoudl this be in AIBU?

on a serious note, it's bloody hard trying to choose an aupair without meeting them first. instinct key, i feel, hence my issue with photos.

hehe! you are right

they should have a polo neck and hair in a bun and no makeup and glasses

i.e.look like me

then they will be much better candidates!

maybe they think some of the Dads will be doing the recruitment...

LOL I was once sent a photo of an au-pair who looked disturbingly like Myra Hindley.
I did mention to the agency that if she wanted a job with children, she should ditch the platinum bob and heavy black eyeliner.
The other one got the job (she looked normal, but turned out to be a Jehovah's Witness. Ho hum, you can't judge a book by its cover etc.)

I think young girls don't even consider it like that - they just want to use a picture where they look good!

Dalex · 15/06/2009 21:08

Don;t do it. Employed one two years ago. No issues with her being beautiful, size six and actually adorable but she worked her way around our village, gave half of them the clap and then left! What an experience. And I actually adored her like my own daughter {smile}

really, dalex? You're a nobler woman than me then! i just coulnd't, would feel far too threatened and nostalgic for when I was the babe (lucky i have sons
Glad it worked out for you though, if not your neighbours!

Was a shock as I thought she was completley sweet and innocent. However, have to trust your other half and believe in their feelings for you. She did take me out clubbing although licra and me don;t get on too well anymore. {smile}

I always avoid pics with sex appeal.

Millarkie · 15/06/2009 21:39

I avoid the ones with the come-hither photos, to me it means that they aren't thinking about what being an au pair means. Some of the photos are more suitable for facebook than aupair websites. I also avoid those with dodgy email addresses (sexybrowneyes@jkhfhf or blondebimbi@whatever are two I've had applications from).
We have the size 6 tall blonde au pair at the moment but she sent what looked like a school photo and has not been dragging random men home or waking us up coming home in the early hours (at least).
Next au pair has gone a bit too far the other way though and posted lots of pictures of her with various kids that she has worked with - to the point of making it difficult for me to work out which person she was! (She has a very youthful face and some of the children were teenagers).
