when are you supposed to get your p45?

I finished work a couple of days ago and I haven't been given a p45. I queried this today and I was told that my former employer would issue it on the next payroll date which is 28th of the month?

I thought you got it on your last day and now that I think of it should I have to wait for my money?

Any HR people people out there who know what to do?

Is there a problem with getting it at the end of the month with your final pay? Do you have a new employer pressurising you to hand it in or something?

I have started a new job and wanted to hand it in to my new employer. I thought you needed the p45 to ensure your tax code was correct?

But is there any suggestion you aren't going to get one? It just sounds like you are going to have to wait a week or two, no?

If your new employer is very organised and sorts your payroll out at your new job quick enough to pay you this month, they can either get you to fill in a P46 or can put you on an emergency tax code for the first month until you have your P45. Just speak to the payroll dept at your new job and explain that it's on it's way.

The legislation states that an employer will issue a P45, but doesn't give timescales for issuing it. Mos wait for payrun and issue at end of pay period. If you are unemployed, and claiming JSA, then Jobcentre Plus should be able to do it fairly quickly once you've signed off.

New emplyer can do P46 procedre, so don't worry
