Changing agreed notice period

I gave 1 months notice on Monday with a last day of 12th June. On talking to the boss I agreed to extend my notice period by a month (stupid sap) to allow them more time to find a replacement.

After today I have decided the working situation is intolerable and want to return to my original leaving day.

I am a little worried as we are not talking about reasonable employees rather arrogant nasty people who think that someone having done them some work does not need to get paid as agreed in a contract but as and when they see fit. Part of this is down to the current climate and cashflow but a lot because of their attitude.

As my last day is mid-month I can see them being really nasty and withholding my pay. Is there anything I can do or can I insist on my original notice with no legal ramifications? Moral ones with these people is a different matter!

Thanks for any advice.

They can't withhold pay for time you have worked, that would be non-payment of wages which you can take them to a tribunal for if necessary. Not sure why they'd do that though? If you've already left then not paying you isn't going to help them at all is it? Just can't see any motivation for them withholding pay after the event iyswim?

You have agreed a new end date so you don't have any legal right to change it back. There's not a lot they can do if you do so though, there's no realistic legal action they can take against you. The only issue might be a reference, either for your next job or future jobs.

Thank you Flowery

Boss has not responded to my resignation any more than the verbal agreement so I sent an email advising that after the behaviour on Thurday afternoon I could see no reason to extend my notice period and that I would leave on that date.

Nothing has been said in reply yet.
