I am a single mu to my daughter who's now started school. I'm presently receiving income support but have been offered a job. Unfortunately the hours are variable from week to week and most likely less than 16. I desperately want the job but want to make sure that I won't be worse off by accepting it. Has anyone got experience of this, or know how the system works please, apparently theres only 1 lone support officer and she's off work sick. I have telephoned as many people as possible and different job centres but no-one can help me. This is so frustrating!!! so if anybody can help me please it would be fantastic

you must average 16 hours a week but that does not mean you have to work 16 hours every week if your employer can guarantee say 64 hours a month at the end of the financial year they ask for your annual income so unless you find your hours are majorly less you should be ok

Thanks very much for your help, chances are my hours may be less and is only a temp job for now so may have to revert back to IS in the summer. Never thougt it could get so complex!
