Anyone work as a Family Support worker in a children's centre or similar ??

I often see posts as Family Support workers advertised on my local council site.

Obviously the title of the job leads to the conclusion that you are there to help suport families but I wondered if anyone on here had a more in depth information about the role ?

Also the ad's never seem to indicate what qualifications are needed and I am sure there must be some ? A child care qualification perhaps.

My old colleague at homestart was one before that job, it seemed to be a sort of under SW role working actually in the family trying to make postive changes..... much like a more general HS tbh. She liked it, but did find it draining.

Is something I would like to do.

meee, I was a family support worker for 6 years in my local Family centre. Now Im an outeach in childrens centre, working with our family worker. Depending on where you will be based, really depends on the role. Almost all ask for NVQ level 2 or 3 in childcare. Feel free to email me minx101 at hotmail dot com

Yes i think it sounds like something I would like to do.

Most sites I have looked on so far mention that a childcare of social care qualification would be benficial. I can't do both though of those though, only one and would probably prefer to do the child care one.
