Interview question

Sorry this is a bit long.

For background I have an internal interview on Friday, for a post I'm already seconded into, I'm the only candidate, as the position has been ringfence within our team and I'm the only one that meets the criteria. I'm a bit annoyed that I'm having to go through a formal interview at all, as this doesn't always happen in our organisation, but never mind.

Anyway, I don't have a suit that fits at the moment, and I don't particularly want to buy one the size I am now. So I've bought a smart blouse, which is a different style from what I'd usually wear and smarter than I usually dress for work and I'm planning to wear it with black trousers and black shoes.

Do you think this will be OK, or do I really need a suit?

It's not usual for people in the team I work in to wear suits, and when I recently interviewed for a vacancy none of the candidates wore a suit.

what's the protocol these days? It's been a while since I've had an interview.

Personally, I think that's fine. But I posted a similar question on here a while ago, and I had all sorts 'of course you need to wear a suit' responses. As long as you are smart, I think that given the circumstances you'll be fine.

If it's an internal interview and you are the only candidate, and suits aren't usually worn, then no I don't think you need to buy a suit. Going one stage smarter than usual should be fine.
