Sick Leave question

dweezle · 01/05/2009 20:56

Is sick leave an entitlement? This is in a full time salaried role with an energy company, and it looks as if the employees are using their annual leave instead of sick leave (this is on behalf of my SIL). surely they should be entitled to paid sick leave..... Any advice gratefully received.

The only legal entitlement to sick pay is to Statutory Sick Pay, which is not much. There is no obligation for an employer to pay employees any more than that when they are off sick.

SSP only kicks in once you've been off sick for 3 days so if there is no company sick pay scheme employees who are off sick won't get paid at all for the first three days.
