Job promotion and work related stress

Hi i was given a job promotion a few months ago to a deputy manager and its been a big change for me in my job role as i have alot of extra pressure. I've really been struggling in my new role.

I spoke to my manager about how i feel and he said i may have work related stress. Im worried now because this may affect my promotion (im on a probationary period at the moment).

Will work related stress affect my promotion?

I don't think your manager should be trying to diagnose you, unless he/she is also your GP...!

Are you actually signed off sick with stress at the moment? Or are you just finding things difficult early on in your new role and struggling a bit to cope. There's a difference.

No im not signed off sick at the moment. My manager didnt really diagnode it he just said he doesn't want me getting stressed out and getting to the point of been signed off with stress. I dont think im struggling in my new role as ive been feeling like this for 4 months now im worried its work related stress

You said in your first post that you are struggling in your new role though? I agree with your manager that you shouldn't get stressed out, but what support are you getting from him? If you're not at the stage where you are off sick, you are at the stage where you should be addressing the situation together with your line manager to ensure that you don't go off with work-related stress.

You need to sit down with him and work out what things you are struggling with, identify what help and support you can get from him or elsewhere, and what you can do to make things easier for you.

Or is it that you think this promotion was a mistake altogether? Do you feel you shouldn't be doing the job?

Yes i do feel i shouldn't be doing the job truth is i dont think im good enough for it and i dont feel i deserve it

Well someone relevant obviously thinks you do deserve it and are good enough otherwise you wouldn't have been promoted, so that's a start.

Obviously I don't know anything about you, ut I do think it's worth a try at the moment to resolve it, talk through with your manager what support you could get, some ideas on how you could make things easier at least for a while, and then see how you go.
