Job application conundrum

A job has recently become available in our dept. At present I am doing this job. I am told that on the application form there may be something about having qualifications etc.

If so, would you still apply stating that you have been doing this job off your own back for the last couple of months, with no problem.

Yes, definitely. And say that you're happy to study to get the qualifications while you're working - if you are happy to do so - they might even sponsor you through it.

Also, have you spoken to your HR or line manager about it? They might be able to give you an indication of how important they feel the qualification is, and whether they think you are suitable for the role (which you obviously are if you have been doing it for a couple of months already).

So the situation is that you have been doing the work bt now they think that it needs a whole new person and a whole new job? In that case surely there must be more to it than what you are doing right now, or else what will you do if some other person gets this job.

it's a bit confusing. Is it another job exactly the same as your current job? Or is it the case that you have been 'filling in' in this other job for a couple of months until they were ready to recruit 'properly'? Or are you employed as a temp in this job and want to be employed in it on a permanent basis?

Either way, if you are doing this job at the moment and doing it well, that will obviously stand you in good stead for applying for it on a permanent basis, as you will be able to demonstrate how you have been doing it well and of course your manager will know you are capable of doing it effectively.

The job that is coming available wasn't going to be advertised as they didn't feel a need for it.

Now they have decided that they do have to advertise as the line manager cannot be available all the time.

I have been doing this job since the other person left AND if for any reason I am deemed not suitable I just won't be doing all the extra work etc and go back to my normal duties.
