How much more should I do?

I had an employee
I had to make her redundant
She is/was also a friend

Things have changed in my business and 7 months later I could re-employ her

I phone her last week & she said "If I ever had a job she would like to come back"

So I phoned her & said "Why don't you come round for a cup of tea - I think we need to have a chat"

She said "I'm too busy"

So should I phone back & say "if you want a job come & have a chat" or should I just take it that when we spoke last week she was having an off day in her new job & that she really isn't interested?

"I think we need to have a chat" is ambiguous, unless you also mentioned the job in the same conversation.

If she was having an off day in her new job why would that mean she wasn't interested?

I think you should be clearer that there is a job going and that you would like to talk to her about it, if she is interested. At least then you'll know where you stand.

I just saw her

I asked her to come round again
She said she was too busy
I said that was a shame & that it was important (I hadn't seen your reply)
She said never mind she'd get in touch when she was free

Mainly because we were each talking in front of our children who are friends & we agreed not to get them involved in what went on

erm I don't see why you can't just tell her, doesn't she have email?

Or just send her a link to the job description when you advertise

Maybe she is pissed off with your crap communication

Snap this sounds like i would probably be, both you nad her, if in those shoes!

Think you need to remeber she's probably still quite upset about it
