Redundancy after maternity leave?

ClarenceC · 20/04/2009 21:17

I returned to work from maternity leave 8 weeks ago into a newly created role. Today I have been told that my role is to be made redundant. Can my employers legally create a role then make it redundant 8 weeks later?

Any advice really appreciated! thanks

If it is a genuine redundancy then I suppose they can , however, I'm no expert.

There is really good advice on the ACAS website and a helpline, here

Sorry about your redundancy

The fact that the role was only recently created doesn't necessarily mean it isn't a genuine redundancy. Do you feel the redundancy isn't genuine? Is it part of a redundancy programme or just you? What happened to your old job, why do you have a newly created one?

It's all a bit clearer now that I've been in for my 'chat' but thanks for your help and the link
