Should I chase up?

I applied for a job at the local nursery that is on the same site as the school.
The closing date was the 9th but have heard nothing since. I had heard from the deputy manager that I had a good chance.
Dh thinks I should go and ask if any interviews have been set up yet but I think I should wait
I do know the manager as my dd went to the nursery but don't feel it would be right asking about the job again

9th was just before Easter . I'd say they will proably only be starting to look at applications now, what with the bank holidays. Give it a few more days.
