Fellow primary teachers - advice please on experience needed for increased employability

Hello - I am currently a p/t teacher with 3 years experience. I am looking to move schools in the next 2 years (from London to somewhere else!). Currently I do mainly support work and some class cover, although before my mat leave I was a f/t class teacher.
With a view to applying for jobs in the next year or so, which do you think would be better: 1) continuing to do support work -or-
2) going back in class (prob. as a job share)
I still need to remain part-time.

Any advice?

Hello, noticed no-one else has replied - FWIW I think you'd be best doing class work as a teacher (better paid too), unless you wanted to gain experience in another area (eg SEN or Secondary) by doing Support work.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to read and respond. I get the same pay whether I am in class or support, so that isn't a problem. I enjoy having my own class, but I also really like the reduced workload that comes with doing support work! I guess I am just wondering what would go best on my CV.
Any other opinions?

Oh wow! I didn't realise you'd get the same pay - lazy me would do support then but I do think Teaching work would look best on your CV (provided you are thinking of applying for class teaching eventually).

When you move are you also going to want part time? If so then I would continue with support work.

If you are looking for part time work I would be as flexible as possible and to be honest class room teaching is always more impressive in your particular context. Part time jobs can be tricky to find as most schools are already accomodating part time requests from teachers already employed. You may be lucky though and get a job share.

Thanks for that, it has made me realize that I really need to start getting my head around what it will be like to work full time again.
