Are fathers entitled to paid time off to attend antenatal appointments?

I need to know before DH requests time off from his witch of a boss!

I'm pretty sure they are entitled to time off but not sure whether it is paid or if he will be expected to make the time up.

Thanks!

No they aren't. He would have to take the time either as annual leave or lieu time or take it unpaid.

ruddynorah · 19/04/2009 20:26

not entitled. but a decent employer would let them have it anyway or at least rearrange hours or something.

Thanks! (What a shame...)

No they aren't. They are pretty dull anyway, so he wouldn't be missing anything. Far better to make sure he can get the time off for scans rather than antenatals - all they do is check your wee and blood pressure.

Just checking - but they are entitled to the time aren't they, even though it's not paid?

Oh sorry - it is the scan I meant.

no. not entitled at all. only to 2 wks paternity.

No they are not entitled to any time off at all other than the 2 weeks paternity leave at the time of the birth. He will have to rely on a bit of goodwill from his boss I'm afraid.

Well here's hoping she scrapes some together in time

Thanks all for your advice.
