Please help me find a name for my shop

I'm going to start a business in France selling new children's clothes. I will have a web site and so it will be mainly mail order. Can anyone help me think of a name that will appeal to both French and English speaking customers.

I've been thinking on the lines of something play or toy related. Le train rouge, carousel etc. I quite like La Grenouillère (paddling pool) or La bascule (seesaw). What does anyone else think?

Jaquelinehyde · 17/04/2009 19:31

Heated · 17/04/2009 19:35

enfant cordiale

Disenchantegg3 · 17/04/2009 19:44

la petite marionnette / The little puppet?

bateau de voile / sail boat?

étoile brillante / bright star

pottycock · 17/04/2009 19:45

You HAVE to go with Heated's suggestion - that's brilliant!

Homebird8 · 17/04/2009 19:50

As someone who only just scraped an O level (am I showing my age!) in French and have since forgotten most of what I didn't know well then, you need a name which folks like me will be able to translate. Of the suggestions above even I can translate "Le train rouge" so think along these lines.

Le petit bateau
Le valise de surprise (I bet that's bad grammar!)

I love Enfant Cordiale by the way!

fannyGalore

Tinker · 17/04/2009 19:54

Enfant Cordiale is very good, like that

bunjies · 17/04/2009 19:55

I love Enfant cordiale

Do you think the French would 'get it'?

Muppetgirl - are you being naughty?!

I think you're right about Grenouillère - too difficult.

Keep 'em coming please.

Heated · 17/04/2009 22:34

Glad you liked Enfant Cordiale..., so when do you hope to launch...and do I get a discount?

bunjies · 18/04/2009 11:09

Muppetgirl - little boat = petit bateau (expensive French children's clothing brand!!)

Heated - The more I think about it the more I like it! If I end up using the name you'd be very welcome to a freebie!

I'm hoping to get started in a few weeks time. I need to set up my web site, buy stock and then put some flyers together. I'd like to try & get up & running before the Summer holidays (which start at the beginning of July here) so I can cash in on pre-holiday spending!

I'm going to use this lot as their deal looks good. £20 for a basic set up including web hosting for a year, domain name and ability to accept Paypal.

Well I've done it! Registered the name www.enfantcordial.com Used the masculine form of 'cordial' as this ould make more sense in France. Now just need to get some stock and load everything on to the site. I can't believe I'm actually doing this!!

Haribosmummy · 18/04/2009 19:27

Wow!! How cool!! I'll def keep an eye out for your stuff!!! It will be rather cool to know where the name came from!!

bunjies · 19/04/2009 11:58

Thanks everyone! I'm really excited about it. I used to have an ebay shop but then they started charging me £14/month for the privilege so decided to do my own thing instead. I'll let you all know when I'm up & running.
