interview phobia

I know that most people get nervous at interviews, but I have a serious and worsening problem. I literally freeze with fear, brain doesnt work, cant get my words out etc. If I have to do a presentation, I am even worse - hands/ voice shakes, turn beetroot red.

I have alot of experience, and pretty much always get shortlisted, but I appear such a nervous wreck in person that I wouldnt give me a job. Ironically, I am quite calm and work well under pressure when in post.

I am applying for jobs in a new area. I went for a new post before easter and have heard nothing, so I must assume I didnt get it. I have another interview on monday - with a bloody presentation. I just feel sick at the thought of it.

Has anyone experienced the same? How did you mamage it? I am beginning to think I will never get another job.

I hate interviewing as well. I also have a terror of presentations, and have in the past turned down interviews which involve them! However what has helped me has been interviewing other people - having now seen it from the other side, I have realised that you can get the job even if you are awful at presentations, and really nervous! I am much more confident in interviews when talking about my experience, knowledge, etc, than I am talking about my interests and hobbies! Focus on the fact that you have lots of experience, and have been shortlisted becuase you are a strong candidate! I really sympathise though, it is such a horrible feeling...! xxx
