If you turned down a job, which you now think was a mistake, what would you do??

I was offered two jobs on the same day (back in Feb) got offered one about and hour before the other, and although I knew Id taken the right one there and then for personal reasons, I now feel like it was a big mistake and that if another job came up in the future I would apply for it.

Would you write a letter to the interviewer and explain and say that should another position become available youd like to apply?

no. i wouldn't. i'd just look out for an ad in the paper.

I think it would show that you really thought about it and would love to be given a second chance to do it

yes, but if you write a letter saying, basically, i wish i'd taken this job instead, you'll look indecisive.

sort of a no-win situation, really.

Maybe if post came up, a covering letter explaining change in circumstances, i dunno.

oh, i don't know. Don't listen to anything I say. both seem like the wrong and right choice in different ways

I think it depends how you write it though

you could say that you had other options and you seriously considered the job but circumstances at the time meant you took the one that was offered to you first

you're just asking them to alert you if another possibility comes up as you were very keen on them and you'd like to be considered again

you don't need to spell out your regrets. If they offered you the jobin the first place, they must have liked you so I think you just need to say 'I might be in the market for a job again, I liked your organisation in the first instance, if something comes up, could you consider me again'...very plain. So not pleading, just asking iyswim.

I think leave it longer, say 6 months, before writng speculatively. Along the lines of cirucmstances have changed and I would like to be considered for opportunities in the future. Any positiion would still need to be advertsied for equal opps though.

Its the same NHS trust, just a different department, but it would mean I get to my final dream job quicker, which I didnt realise at the time, also didnt realise how the job I accepted would de-skill me massively over the years until I would be unable to do much else

Oh yes will leave it for now (unless something comes up) Im pg anyway so not the best time to be writing asking them to re-consider me for another post

I DID THIS AND GOT THE JOB!!!!!!

I turned down a job, kept the one I had and after 2 months came to my senses.

Wrote a letter to the manager explaining my change of heart and said something along the lines of if any came up could they please consider me.

I got a phone call as someone they had taken on did the job and decided it wasn't for them.

I know that you are pregnant (congratulations) and that you are leaving it but just wanted to say that it can have a positive result.

can you just write and say that your "personal circumstances have changed" and that you would be extremely interested in any future vacancies?

fizzy, what did you say in your letter (well done BTW ).
Thats a bit like my situation, ive only been in the new job 1 month and already thinking its not for me (although Im thinking the whole career is maybe not for me )
