I wonder if anyone has any advice they could offer. I have been offered an interview onto a Social Work Degree Course and been sent an Occupational Health Form. It asks the question regarding 'depression' and whether the applicant has/or is suffering from depression and also about attempted suicide.
Nearly a decade ago I took an overdose after my mother died very badly from cancer. I have also taken low doses of anti-depressants more or less since. However, I feel absolutely fine and do not think I should be prevented from following a career that I feel I have a lot to contribute to.
I am tempted to lie, but am not sure of the consequences if this were to be found out. I wonder if this information would prevent me from being accepted.

I don't know if it would prevent you from being accepted.

However, unfortunately you will have to declare this otherwise they could accuse you of having falsified information.

I would advise you to make an appointment to speak to someone in OH in confidence and be up front with them.

I can completely understand why you might have attempted suicide and why you have been depressed. In the case of your suicide attempt, this was a reactive incident in response to a life event rather than a general suicidal tendency (from my viewpoint, at least). I feel sure they will understand if you speak to them honestly and in person.

Just be honest. They are real people aswell, there were reasons for this and it was a long time ago so they will understand. They just want to make sure that you have the support you need whilst on the course. I've seen student nurses with worse conditions then this by the way. Just be honest.
