My dad has just found out the company he has worked for for the last 15 years is going into receivereship (sp?). He has been told he has to work up until the 31st as he has already been paid until then. My parents are in a pretty dire financial state anyway so this will be a huge blow to them. They are due to complete the sale of their home in May (can't afford it and that was before this!) to live in rented accomodation.

Do you know if he will get any sort of redundancy pay out or are the debts dealt with first?

Does he have to work until the 31st. Seems pointless given the circumstances. His time would be better spent looking for a job.

Sorry to hear this.

He does technically have to work his notice if they are requiring him to do so, yes. However he is entitled to reasonable paid time off for job hunting - to attend interviews, that kind of thing.

There's not going to be an awful lot they are likely to do about it should he not work his notice, but it might affect a reference and technically he will obviously owe them pay for the days he has been paid for but not worked.

If his employer is unable to pay his redundancy pay he will be able to claim it from the government, see here about what happens.

Thank you so much FBG. I am so appreciative of your help. My mum is incredibly stressed at the moment and this is the last thing they need. Thanks again. I am sending you a virtual bunch of flowers.
