can i get jsa (cont based) if i have to resign from my job??

hi all
hopin sum of u experts can give me an idea??
i currently work nights (2 nights a wk - total 7.5hrs) and normally my dh looks after the kids while i work. unfortunately due to the work situation, his company sent him overseas, and we cudnt really refuse (his is the main wage obviously).
now, i have been struggling with gettin my ils to look after the kids, but this cannot be long term as they live a good dist away and they are retired.
now, as soon as i knew about dhs job, i wrote to my work and asked about changin hrs, and gave sum ideas, and stated i wud be felxible, but also gave a date i needed to know by. this date has arrived and ive heard all from work about my request. obviously i can no longer work, so will have to resign.
i dont want probs as i know i have kinda been 'made' to resign, but wondered if i cud claim jsa (has to be contribution based im sure) whilst i try and find sumthin else to do.

any ideas?? and sorry for it bein so long lol oh, and i cant pay for a babysitter as it wud be more than i actually earn!!!

No, you cannot resign and get JobSeekers. You may get some Income Support?

noI dont think you can but

go on the acas site and look up flexible woring, follow all the steps there. they maysay no but otoh they may not. worth a go (DH got it)

peachy - followed all that n my employer just hasnt bothered to get back to me. its a large supermarket i work at, and they really arent family friendly (like they make out).
feline - not sure if i can get income support, as dh is on a good wage.....
can see im prob just gonna have to go down the job centre make an appt and see what they say......

Mum2twoboyz - a lot will depend on the reasons you and your employer give for you leaving your job. If you have made efforts to remain i that job (eg asking for different hours/days etc) or if you can show you have looked for alternative work during any notice period, that will work in your favour It's unlikely you'll get JSA(Cont) if you've been working part time.

To get JSA you must be available for work - as you have children and are caring for them you will be able to restrict the hours you are availabvle as long as you are available for at least 16 hours a week OR as many hors as your caring responsibilities allow (as long s this is 16+).

Look on Drect Gov (the on line benefits advisor is good) www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/index.htm but if you and DH are still together and he is in F/T work it's unlikely you'll qualify for anything (except maybe tax credits) if you haven't paid enouigh in contributions.

went in to work and handed in my notice, as no one had even bothered to check my letter, let alone read and reply!!
they honestly do not give a stuff about ppl, and certainly dont care whether i am there or not.

no, i dont 'need' to work, i want to, and also feel like all the yrs i worked previous to kids, and since kids i shud get sumthin, as it is annoyin seein sum ppl get handed all this money and theyve never ever had a job!!

have tried everything, in my 1st letter gave ideas and offered to come in for a meeting - and nothing. its bad enuf technically bein a single parent, without havin to deal with an employer that doesnt care, and have to keep fighting with them for answers (this isnt the 1st time either).

looks like we will just have to do without the extras, and hope dhs job gets permanent... wil prob go down jobcentre just in case, and so many things have been told (like re claiming for ctc if partner is workin away more than 8 wks etc) that i hope they can help with!!
