Hi all,

Last month I got paid wrong as my manager had put my sick pay through wrong on the system. I had to phone payroll and sort it out myself. I still dont know if its sorted as manager told me they are not replying to her emails.

Im on 2 weeks holiday at the the moment and am due to start mat leave on Sunday. They know nothing about this they said when I rang them today. How I dont know as they sent me a 3 page form to fill in with dates I was due, dates ive worked for company, how much I earned over a certain period.

So now my manager is on holiday for 2 weeks, its not sorted and my pay is going to be wrong again. Anyone have any idea how I can try and get it sorted?

Who's 'they'? Payroll? So you rang payroll this morning and they say they don't have a record of your maternity leave? What did they say you need to do - did they ask for a new form, or what? How was it left with them?

Do you have HR? If you do, contact them and explain the situation, and ask what can you do to ensure you get paid correctly. If not, in the absence of your own manager, you need to speak to your manager's manager and ask him/her to intervene.

Just send in a very clear, factual letter or email to HR explaining what all the dates are, what holiday you have had so far this year, and what is left, etc. Even if you have done it all before, just do it again. Then set out how you think it should all work out in plain English (ie 'therefore, having received holiday date approval from my manager and having submitted all my dates to you, it is clear that I am now on 2 weeks holiday and at the end of it, on 'X' date, my maternity leave will begin'). Then ask them to confirm back in writing.

TBH, not much more you can do. You can't 'force them' to sort it out any quicker/better. They sound pretty hopeless so keep everythign in writing and don't try to sort out over the phone.

totally X-posts there. Flowery's advice just as good - sounds as if the left arm (your payroll people) don't know what the right arm (your 'HR' rep) are doing. I guess the forms you filled in never got passed to the payroll dept.

Thanks all,

I got through to someone in payroll who was not very amused I was having to sort it out myself. She has taken some details and is going to phone me back to let me know what she is able to do.

I tried to contact managers manager but they are all in a big meeting today and we are not able to contact any of them.

Will have to wait it out now and see what happens I guess. Thank you all for the advice. I shall let you know the outcome (if I get it sorted soon)

Well that sounds a bit better - I imagine she is going to try to track down your form for you, and work out how best to sort it if she can't.

A wee update,

Lady from payroll very sorry I had to sort it out myself and has now resolved all issues.

I get my backdated sick pay, my maternity pay is calculated (and more than I thought ) and I will have it when I get paid next week.

Panic over.

Thanks again to everyone who replied so quickly.

That's excellent news, she sounds very helpful, and more money than you thought as well - bonus!
