been a very busy night, work in bar in hotel. was a wedding reception. worked for six hours , with one 15 minute break, and was asked to go to public bar at 12 midnight. all other staff were leaving and i was still in bar at 1 am..... seven hours on feet - pain is unbearable.manager 3 came in and i asked him if i could go, he said no.[angry) by now....im getting really tired, and thinking why am i doing this?. so walks out and say to managers #1&#3 am going home ive had enough and if you dont like it send me my p45......manager #2 smiles and signs my clockout card, manager #1 shoutsat m and says im being arrogant and if ive got an issue with someone(wtf)then i shouldnt deal with it infront of the other staff.i replied " like i said send me my p45" and flounced out the hotel. its against the law to work seven hours with only one 15minute break.none of the staff, except the managers have contracts, and staff are not trained in basic food hygene rules.

Have you got a copy of your time card for any work you haven't been paid for yet?

I did something similar many many years ago - I worked an 11.5 hour waitressing/bar shift at a hotel with a 15 minute break. I walked out, they said 'if you leave now you're not coming back' and I thought that was the best things I'd ever heard. Manager was on the phone to me the next morning begging me to come back because they were desparate for staff that day, but I refused.

They threatened to not pay my final week, so I counter-threatened action against illegal working hours, They pointed out that I would never be able to prove the hours; so the second I was off the phone I called one the receptionists and she comandeered my time card and made me copies. Luckily, I was friends with the accountant (lets face it, I got on with everyone apart from the manager) so when it came to payday, he called me to ask why I didn't have a submitted time card, so I sent him one of my copies and got paid.

You can find soomething better than this. There are plenty of hotels out there that DO follow the rules. Hopefully you're still asleep at the moment, but when you wake up, you need to stay calm so you can decide if you want/can bear to go back and how to get out without losing out if you don't!

You did the right thing.

There are stil plenty of jobs like that out there and you do not have to put up with poor treatment.
