My boss wants to change my hours and I can't

I don't know what to do. I just had my boss on the phone telling me he wants to change my rota so that I work 2 in 6 Saturdays rather than my current 1 in 6. This would be back to my old rota that I had two and a half years ago before I went on maternity leave with my son. I put in a flexible work request on my return as my husband works weekends and I didn't have childcare. Now my parents look after the children for one weekend in six. They would not be able to do one in three and my husband can't stop working either so I just don't know what to do. If I tell DH he is going to go potty. He doesn't like me working as it is. Does anyone have any advice?

If you agree a flexible working arrangement it is a permanent change to your terms and conditions so your boss needs your agreement to make another change.

If your contract says something about the employer being able to vary hours and rotas, that might complicate it slightly, but as you have agreed this rota on a flexible working basis, you have some protection.

That makes me feel a bit better. I have to say I didn't respond very well when he told me. I burst into tears and told him he would have to call me back! My boss is really nice bloke so I expect he is feeling pretty bad at the moment.
I have only been back off my second maternity leave a month and was just feeling like I was getting my sea legs so it feels like a real blow.

That's a shame. Just speak to your boss calmly when you get yourself together and say that you understand that he needs your consent to make changes to your terms and conditions of employment, and unfortunately you are not able to give consent to this change as it would be impossible for you to do those hours.
