Anyone work for NHS preferably in HR?

I went for an interview just over a week ago for a secretary position at a hospital. They have written to at least one but possibly two of my referees for a reference. Is this a good sign or do they take references for everyone?

My references were taken up even before I had an interview for my NHS job....

They take references for everyone IME.

It depends. I think as a rule they can take up references anyway (though they'd be stupid to do it unless they were at least interested) but here we only take them up if we're offering the person the job subject to references.
