Job Seekers Allowance - Another question ?

SKYTVADDICT · 24/02/2009 17:01

I am definitely going to be made redundant at the end of March after maternity leave ends. I have been into work today so it is all a bit new.

Will be ringing job centre plus tomorrow but in the meantime does anyone know if everyone is entitled to job seekers allowance?

I have always worked so it would be contribution based but a friend told me today that I won't be because it is based on the household income and any shortfall is made up with child tax credit etc?

I didn't think this was the case but wanted to see if anyone knew so I don't have a sleepless night tonight worrying about money - I thought I had six monts of this allowance to come.

I have just been made redundant too, I went through a lengthly phone call yesterday with the jobcentre and was told I would be entitled to jobseekers allowance. They haven't taken dh's salary details though.
I haven't been told how much I am entitled too I have to go for an interview on Friday which I expect to be told

I got it (contribution-based) for 6 months. Household income is irrelevant.

Brilliant thanks. Thought that was the case.

Whoops - think it is about £121 a fortnight
