Its doing my head in completely and I'm not silly with numbers I should be able to manage this!
We are UTTERLY skint and I need to do a serious budget but am finding it very hard.
DH is a SE taxi driver and has rubbish nights and good nights. HOW can I work out what he earns so I can budget? Take an average? Although I tried this and now the work has diminished that figure will be out.
Oh for a monthly salary sometimes, how do you manage?

I guess it would be very difficult to equate his self emplyed earnings to a monthly or even a weekly salary.

Perhaps you could work out how much he earns over a year, and then average that out to a week or month.

You will need to work out your bills on an annual basis as well.

I guess that some months or weeks you will be in debt and some weeks in credit, but it should balance out over a few months, so you will need a decent overdraft facility to manage with.

Hopefully someone will come along with more useful advice - as I am a salaried person!

i think what you'd need to do is work out how much you need per week/month (household bills, food, petrol, etc)and then start from there, rather than with income because you need a starting point that doesn't change. Then what you can do is have a look at the income weekly/monthly/annually, to see if that will cover the bills, then assuming it does, you'll have to work hard to keep money back when he has a good week so that you have money to cover the bad weeks.

I agree with Eddas - can you work how much you need to live and a wee bit extra. Then have this as a weekly budget of money to come in - if he has a couple of rubbish nights - he'll have to try and do extra hours to make it up? Do you work - could you work p/t in some way to top the pot up? or ebay stuff?

Thanks, I will do it the way round you suggest and see what happens
