Is there anywhere I can get a list of businesses in the local area?

I was wondering if there's anywhere i can get a list of local businesses, like plumbers and electricians? What I want to do is send out a mailshot for my business and target local tradespeople. I could go throught the Yellow pages but wondered if there was an easier way?

TIA

do you have Chamber of Commerce in England? or small business gateway - no charge if under 1000 companies requested. Also - ou can specify over a certain amount of t/over.

yell.co.uk maybe?

thanks

tracyk, looking at the chamber of commerce I think i'd ned to be a member in order to get any details other than the names of members and we don't appear to have a small business gateway. Thank you for the suggestions though

dizzy, i've just had a look at yell.com and that will be much easier to use than the normal yellow pages thank you!

Infact it's made me think that I probably could just chuck out, well recycle, my yellow pages/phone book etc as really it's all on the internet anyway so you dont really need the books kicking around taking up valuable space!!

Eddas you could also try your local library, a person from my councils business support team told me about free databases for small business use - may be worth checking.

Good luck - have you looked to see if there is any trade fairs for related products to those trades - it may be worth attending to look or showcase services to negotiate discounts for referals/regulr work?
