HELP!

I'm applying for jobs atm, after being a SAHM for 8 years. Most jobs want at least one previous employer as a reference. My last job was in 2001 and it didn't last long. Not only can't I remember the name of the boss I can't even remember the name of the company.

Will they take personal referees if I put a little note in explaining how I've been at home for 8 years?

Are you involved in any voluntary groups? Toddlers? School? Church? Other aquaintances - helps if they are professional. Can you remember the job before the one you can't remember? Might look odd if you don't list any previous employer. Although they probably won't contact them if it's that far back.

How about the job before that ? A large company will simply confirm you worked for them between certain dates. I used a friend who had known me for a few years and employment 8 years prior. Agree any voluntary work or contact would be good too.

Also make a long list of all the skills you have developed and used since being a sahm: time mangagement, budget control, thinking on your feet, being more rescourceful with what ever is available, being patient, etc, it might not seem relevant but it's about showing them how you have the skills that can be easily transferable to the work you are interested in. They wantto see you not as someone who was not working because you stayed at home, but by staying at home you now have more to offer than say someone who is going from one job to the next. Agree with MrsSeanBean, get a list together of acquaintances who can provide personal references. If you are quite young, you may still be able to use the name of school or college tutors.

Thanks for the replies. I have a few aquaintences (sp?) that I may be able to use.
