applying in writing for a job........... help!

Its been so long since I've had to apply for a job I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

The position im applying for is a medical receptionist at my doctors surgery. It says to apply in writing with my cv. My cv is fine but what on earth should I be writing in the letter?

Write one page with something like "I would like to be considered for the position of xxxx and attach my CV." The do a couple of paragraphs on why you think your skills and experience and interests make you suitable for the job.

Eg Good with people, empathic, used to coping well in stressful situations, experienced with XYZ systems etc.

I'd guess they are looking for quite a few things from the letter.

They may well be looking to see if you can lay out the letter professionally and appropriately, so use a decent font and size and use paragraphs.

Have an opening paragraph, which states why you want the job at that particular surgery. I'd avoid saying because it is convenient or anything like that (sorry if that's obvious, but I've read so many covering letters like that!)

2nd paragraph could be highlighting your key skills and experience. particularly those which are relevant to the job being advertised.

To close, something about being available for interview and looking forward to discussing your application in more detail at interview.

Don't forget to sign and date your letter, and use a good quality piece of paper, but no need to go overboard. Hope this helps!
