Okay. Am self employed. Accountant has told me how much I am due to pay.

For weeks DH has been saying 'Have you paid your tax yet?'. And for weeks I have been telling him that I'll pay it, last minute, over the phone with my debit card (as I SEEM to remember doing last year).

So tonight I saunter onto the dreaded HM tax sight with the intention of ringing them up and making the dreaded payment AND I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING THAT TELLS ME I CAN DO THIS.

Please tell me I can. Please. Please...

I've left it too late to do it any other way, haven't I?

Don't you phone your bank to do it? But then I'm with First Direct so that is what I do to pay any bill.

Have you got the piece of paper with the paying in slip as that will have the phone number on, I paid ours today in the Post Office if any help.

No you can't. You can pay online or phone your bank and pay that way - we've just done the later.

popsycal · 28/01/2009 20:15

you can do it online....

MrsNorthLondon · 28/01/2009 20:15

You can pay over the phone

Here - not sure if that links to the right place on the page - you may need to scroll down.

You can use the Government Gateway - did you do your self-assessment on there?

i have dh's tax form in front of me as i've just paid his, on the back it does list over the phone as one of the ways to pay. from what i can tell though, you have to do it through your own bank, rather than through the tax office.

do you have internet banking or phone banking set up?, the account details you need to make a payment are on the back of your payment reminder, tax office account number, sort code etc.

LuLuMacGloo · 28/01/2009 20:19

Wow - thanks for all the speedy answers.

Idris - I'm hanging onto your message in hope. Will be back to to tell you how I got on.

My pride (and bank balance) is hanging on this!

Have just realised it is internet paying that I have linked to. Not sure if you can do it on the phone.

llmg, don't fret too much, i still haven't even filled all my info in online yet. going to do it on friday evening, will have nothing to pay as i only registered self employed on the 1st april, so only covers 4 days, think i bought some stamps.

if you have a debit card and internet access just pay it online? its very easy, just goto the web page on teh back of the bill and put in your code thats on the front of your bill, then enter your card details. they email you a receipt straight away. did mine last week.

TracyK · 29/01/2009 12:34

I paid dh's this morning online - through their web site using switch card.
