Anyone done VSO work or worked abroad as a volunteer for a few months?

Now that my DCs are grwon (ing) up, I want to have an adventure of sorts and work overseas for a few months.
Have spent ages trawling the net and there is so much to choose from- hard to pick what is "sound" and what is not.
Anyone got any experience of working overseas, either voluntarily or paid?
I can teach but would be happy to do anything really except really heavy manual stuff- not me!

I did VSO 15 years ago - it was a 2 year commitment then but I think they do shorter postings now, although still a minimum of a year I think. They don't fund families so you need to be sure your DCs are able to cope without you in this country - maybe in a few years? You get expenses paid and a local wage; they run lots of local events and evenings for potential volunteers if you are interested; teachers are always in demand - you need a real skill to share, so they don't take everybody who applies.

Thanks- my DCs are now grown up- so they can manage without me!

I def. don't want a long contract- so am looking around for soemthing around 3-6 months.

VSO sometimes do short term postings if you have a specialist skill. Might be worth talking to them - they might be able to point you elsewhere if they can't help. Good luck with it anyway - it's a great thing to do!
