I'm really not enjoying my job very much at the moment and am seriously considering asking my boss to put me on a redundancy list. This way I would be able to leave without anybody knowing I had a hand in it.

I know this is stupid for many reasons including
a) the current economic climate
b) single parent with no other income
c) unlikely to get another job imeediately on the same money or more locally
d) it's incredibly irresponsible
e) well there's hundreds of reasons

It just seems like an easy way out and if I could get on a compulsorty list nobody need ever know it was my fault.

Why does it bother you that people would think it was your fault? I would just apply for other jobs, and work my notice when I got one. You can always be "imaginative" about the advantages of the new job if you're really leaving because you find the work or the people boring.

You could never leave for a lessr job, but your willing to leave and have no job, that doesnt make sense to me, sorry.

No it doesn't make sense. good isn't it .. but it would mean that I would be able to take a lesser job in the eyes of those around me because a lesser job is better than no job.

Can't you leave for a similar level job which "has more opportunities"? You don't have to actually follow up on the opportunities of course.

Or one where you can spin the practicalities as being better in some way? eg a shorter commute, more flexible hours, etc

Ahh i think i get you now, so if your made redundant, then taking a lesser job wont look so bad? i guess if you really unhappy it would make sense

What is it you dont like about your current job? have you thought baout reducing your hours? may take a bit of pressure off you and understadable if your a lone parent

yeah that's about in VT.

So hard as work in on my doorstep, completely flexible, adequate salary (despite that I'm underpaid for what I do iyswim)

I have no justification to voluntarily leave unless it were to a 'better' job.. which would mean being paid what I'm worth but having to commute

and in the current climate no ideal to voluntarily go soewhere else when could potentially be made redundant in 6 months with no package.. better to sit tight here and leave with a decent package iyswim

it's a rock and a hard place at the minute.

can't reduce my hours because that would effect any package I got if they were to make me redundant anyway.. also going PT in the company I work for is kind of like throwing your career away anyway
