Any Medical Communication freelancers not busy?

I freelance in Med Coms at the moment and all my regular agencies (the bigger ones) are quiet at the moment and I have had to take 4 days off (unprecedented!). I get the impression that they are all being cautious because of the economic climate. Anyone else experiencing the same or is it just me? Just trying to decide whether to get a part-time permanent contract for a while to weather the recession.

Last Friday's PR Week seemed to contain a lot of news of redundancies at various bigger agencies. I don't remember what it said on the Health pages specifically - but one theory on quietness could be that agencies are laying people off as employees, and then some of those lay-offs are absorbing what the agencies would usually contract out to freelancers? I could be talking complete nonsense - it's just a guess.

I'm not even in the Uk, and not in the Meds field so, completely useless response alert...
I just think everybody has 'stopped ' .
Obviusly, thius in turn will lead to lay offs. but nobody is committing to anything. Anything superfluous in the upcoming months just isn't happening anymore.
Lets face it.. MOST of us are superfluous!
