Legal entitlement to holiday?

me again!

so I looked up what empoyees are supposed to be legally entitled to on the direcg gov website and it says to multiply your working days in a week by 4.8. So 5 days a week gets you 24 days per year.

I'm asking because I remember on the contracts where I currently work it states 15 days holiday (I haven't yet got a contract because they've never given me one but that's a different matter) - are they allowed to do this or can I 'demand' more based on this 'legal entitlement'?

Hi,

Remember that the 24 days includes the 8 bank holidays - from April it will be 20 plus the 8 bank holidays.

Not sure how you can point this out to your employer though without losing your job - sorry not helpful I know.

Yes 24 days can include bank holidays, so the minimum at the moment would be 16 days plus the 8 bank holidays.

Yes you can 'demand' (I'd request rather than demand to start with) one extra day. I would assume they are not deliberately breaking the law but are unaware, so I would broach the subject tactfully and not start demanding anything unless and until they say no.
