dont know if this is the right section, but was made redundant at the end of november, and havent bothered trying to claim anything as my maternity allowance should start being paid at beg of feb. Would i have been entitled to anything? Am married and partner earns roughly £17,000 per year and have two children already. Any advise much appreciated.

are you on mat leave atm, or due to start in feb? is it a genuine redundancy, or do you think you've been ousted?

i'm really no experrt, but i think people would need a little more info to comment. if a co. goes bust, the employees are the first people to benefit from any assets, even before creditors, and i should think that you have as much right as any other employee to redundacy, however female you may be.

If you had payment in lieu of notice I don't think you can claim until it has expired.

sorry should have stated no arguement with redundancy.Company not acually bust, i was just, along with another, surplus staff! My employment was terminated at the end of Nov. I knew i couldnt claim jsa as cant look for work as am now 28 weeks pregnant.

ellen if you want to know about benefit you might be entitled to you might be best posting in Legal and Money Matters. Also if the thread title is redundancy and maternity leave people will assume there is an issue to do with your redundancy and the fact that you are on maternity leave, when in fact you are not on maternity leave at all and have no issue with your redundancy.

Try something like 'pregnant and made redundant, what benefits can I get?' as your thread title.

ellen, as I have seen this here:

www.entitledto.co.uk will tell you all benefits you would be entitled to.

However, you should know that you can't choose for your Maternity Allowance to start in February if you have already stopped working:

www.dwp.gov.uk/advisers/ni17a/ma/ma_7.asp
"Your MAP will start at the earliest date if, at the start of the 11th week before the week in which your baby is due, any one of the following applies to you:

  • you have already given up work as an employed or self-employed person or
  • you are claiming Jobseeker?s Allowance (JSA) (this will stop when MA starts) or
  • you are no longer employed or self-employed but are claiming Incapacity Benefit or Severe Disablement Allowance (SDA)"

So if you haven't already put your claim form in, you need to do so ASAP, and if you have, you need to advise them of your change of circumstances.

You should get some help with rent if you rent, but again, entitledto.co.uk will tell you how much.
