Is dd entitled to any benefits?

dd taking a year out of uni to try and earn some money for travel. She had a xmas job (worked over 46 hours some weeks), but only one contract was available after xmas and has been given to the bosses girlfriend (who worked 5 hours a week over xmas).

dd is now unemployed. Is she entitled to claim jobseekers allowance or any benefits?

dd is 19 and currently lives with us.

Thanks clariss, that was really helpful. She is off applying for any job she can find.

She is a little down and angry at the moment as she filled in loads for people off sick, people who didn't bother coming in for work etc.

Its a big bad world out there.
