We are owed Tax from self employed business, do the Inland Revenue pay us, or do they deduct x amount from our tax bill next year?

Depends how much it is, if it's a small amount they'll hold it over, if its' a bit more you get a lovely cheque.

Its under 1,000 but its alot to us, as dh had an accident and was off work for a month, being a self employed gardener, its taken its toll on the amount of money we had saved for the winter quiet period, so to get a cheque would be lovely and then we wouldn't have to get a business loan to tie us over. Its a hand to mouth business!

I had tax due more than £50 less than £1000. Nothing was comoing so I rang they said oh sorry, glad you reminded us and cheque arrived that week. Nver had any hassle dealing with tax people either as an employee or self employed.

I had tax due as an employee, I had completely forgotten and didn't claim - they wrote to me to clarify that I hadn't used up my tax free allowance but had been taxed. When I confirmed, they sent me a cheque for the amount quickly.
