I own a shop and study during quiet times, in between customers. Although I usually do all bookkeeping/paperwork first.

It's hard isn't it

Even not income generating work (like admin) seems more important at times

hard doesnt come close! especially when you add lone parent with 2 kids into the mix

I'm in same boat! I'm lucky in that what I am studying also impacts on my consulatncy work so I try to pretend the two benefit each other- and that helps motivate me.

I find I tend to drop all consultamcy the month befor an academic submission but then ignore it at all other times- my way so isnt the right way!

The long deadlines are a killer! So easy to put it off then and have a major rush. My DH is in the middle of his PHD and it is heavy juggling work and phd.

Can you structure your week where you have one morning with the phone on answerphone only, no emails answered etc and tell any clients you are not available between 9am-1pm on that day? After ad hoc working and then finding he would do phd stuff right through the night expecting to work the next day too, I have got all bossy and restructured his time. He still does sneaky all nighters with the paid work out of guilt when he has done his Fri morning phd but at least it is then the weekend and can snooze Sat!

wow knickknack - lone parent, 2 kids, owning a shop AND studying?? you found a way to fold time and cram in a few extra hours a day? No wonder you use quiet shop time to study! Good on you for keeping up the study though, I am not sure I would be able to juggle all that and mn
