DH's job - can they do that?

Posted last week when DH was told that Honda was closing for 2 months - Feb and March. The news then announced that all Honda staff would be paid. BUT my DH works for the warehouse - and for a company that is a sister company for Honda and they do not know if they are being paid or not. At the moment the feeling is that they are not. Another rumour flying around is that they will not be working in January either.
Can his company do this? Just not pay their staff for 2/3 months? To get another job won't he need his P45?
He says no one in the company knows anything at the moment and that everyone is pissed off. I work too, part-time as a college lecturer but don't earn a huge amount. I am starting to think we won't be able to eat next year. Is there anyone out there who knows what rights the workers have?

This sounds like temporary laying-of. Have a read all about it here. Your DH's employer doesn't have the right to lay him off without pay unless it's in his contract or is agreed some other way.

Is he in a union?

laying-off

Can't remember if he is in a union or not but I think the company are in talks at the moment with the union. Thanks for the info link - it is very useful in just keeping on top of knowing what rights we have.

Just frustrating as we want to know one way or the other but they are keeping their employees hanging on not knowing if they are going to be paid after Christmas.
