Hi,
I would love to make my secretarial job one where I work at home 2 days a week and be n the office 3 times a week. Has anyone convinced their company to let them do it? Can anyone give me any pointers on what to do?

Thanks
Sue

I haven't, but to be honest it's the type of job where you are going to have to make a very strong case to do home working. The nature of the tasks are usually very office based.

Why do you want to work from home? Do you have children and, if so, what ages? This will affect whether you have a legal right to make a request.

What does your job involve and how will you do it from home? You will need to put this in your proposal.

I think BT do have PA's working from home and I think it probably depends on

  1. How often your boss is in the office and if he is whether he depends on you physically being there.
  1. Your relationship, does he trust you enough to give it a go?
  1. How much it would cost to set you up at work safely and whether they have budget to do this
  1. What systems you would need to access and if these can be accessed from home
  1. How phones could be redirected
  1. Impact on your colleagues (could you get them bought into at least trialling it)

Personally I think it can be done but I would need convincing too if it were my secretary.

However, if their journey was tough (esp with childcare, I trusted them and also had experience of them having delivered well from home I would be happy to trial it.

Prob could think of more but that is off the top of my head
