How much to pay for a website - any designers/freelancers able to give advice

Hi

I need to get a website designed; choosing between

  1. Simple site 5-8 pages, couple of photos per page inc emailable contact form

or

  1. Site about 8-10 pages (inc photos), with emailable contact form, small location map (do these have to be designed separately?), and some additional features like blogging capability, enewsletter maybe calendar

Before I start getting quotes and caught into the hard sell I wondered if any designers or fellow freelancers knew how much things like this typically cost?

For 1) I would say between 300-500

For 2) I would say maybe 200 quid more

(location maps are just linked via streetpmap.co.uk so that's a 2-minute job, but blogging/enewsletter/calendar is a small bit of a faff)

It would depend on if you want hosting as well and how much graphic design was required. For no 1 you should pay about £250 plus £100 per year for hosting. Or you could do it yourself for about £50, there are loads of companies that let you design a website with templates.

Live content like blogging and updates would probably cost about twice that.

I designed my own website here using Rapidweaver software and a template I downloaded from the internet. All I pay for is hosting, which I have with BT.

no 2 would be 200 quid IN ADDITION to the first price
