This is a huge day for world affairs, and I am writing about... christmas presents.

Sometimes (nearly all the time?) my work seems so shallow. Finding it hard to concentrate today

Can't you turn it round - 'This year's must-have for all ages will be the Barrack Obama doll!'
He's written a few books about himself too, surely they will be popular presents?

motherinferior · 05/11/2008 09:53

I am writing about corneal transplants. I share your pain.

Fennel · 05/11/2008 09:55

Can't you work in a current news theme?

as in: Corneal transplants may be a problem on days like today if you feel extra tearful. Perhaps postpone your corneal transplant until a few weeks after American Election Day to avoid tears of joy spoiling the surgery.

and for christmas presents, definitely the Obama biography.

VersdeSociete · 05/11/2008 09:55

I wonder if I could persuade someone to commission a piece on Obama's favourite spas? Someone in the health field maybe?

Fennel · 05/11/2008 09:57

I laughed rather a lot on Satureday at Lucy Mangan in the Guardian with her Politicians' recipe books as chrismas present ideas. Especially Obama "Take 5 loaves and 2 fish..."

With photos ?

Free at last...your corneas, from your body to those who need them?

VersdeSociete · 05/11/2008 09:59

I would be postponing my corneal transplant. Startled to find tears sprining up whilst listening to acceptance speech. I share your lust, mi.

Fennel · 05/11/2008 10:01

Mmm yes indeed.

Fennel · 05/11/2008 10:02

I dreamt about Barack Obama last night. we were swimming in tropical waterfalls - a sort of spa theme.

motherinferior · 05/11/2008 10:07

I cried my eyes out about it this morning. Quite embarrassing, really.

PMSL at all these respectable wimmin of lefty views confessing their weakness for the Leader of the Free World.

Fennel · 05/11/2008 10:24

I sniffed a bit but hid it behind dd3's hair. Especially watching everyone on the tv crying, and particularly Jesse Jackson. While fielding dd2's comments about how Barack isn't actually black he's brown...

VersdeSociete · 05/11/2008 18:19

Have now become totally obsessed with BO (Hmm only just noticed those initials), ie since he got elected. Am concerned as to wwhat this is telling me...

bumbling · 06/11/2008 18:07

I share the pain. Most of all because I normally do current affairs hackery and I'm totally out of the loop at the mo having had a childcare crisis (spent last four months looking after DS and must continue till he goes full time at school in Jan). Fab of course and lovely, if poverty-stricken, chance to spend time with DS, but it's hurt so much not to be involved in BO and latest credit crunch shenanigans. Still I'm now an expert in Monkey Madness and the Cars DVD rather than analysing banks' annual accounts and possibilities of world peace! Ho hum...

motherinferior · 07/11/2008 13:34

Apparently Baracks' two daughters find him embarrassing. (Presumably saying 'oh daaad, all my friends saw you on the telly last night, I'm so embarrassed...)

I find this, on a number of levels, deeply consoling.
